The
Taoist Arts Organisation (TAO) was created after the
death of Professor Chee Soo in 1994. Master Tony Swanson
(one of Prof. Chee Soo's two most senior students) was
asked by a group of over 30 Instructors to organise
and head an association to carry on the traditions of
the Li family. As a result the TAO was set up to be
administered by a committee which was voted for by
the members of the organisation.
Since our inception we have gained recognition as both
an ITEC school and NVQ Assessment Centre together with
being a member of the British Council of Chinese Martial
Arts (BCCMA). Our instructors have all taken Governing
Body Coaching Awards, some are qualified to Level 2
NVQ standard and others are qualified competition Judges
and Referees.
We are a senior member of the BCCMA (National Governing
Body) - Master Swanson being the current Chairman and
other members of the TAO being on the competition organisation
committee.
The TAO teaches traditional Li style arts of :
- T'ai
Chi - a medium frame system that incorporates
all the basic principles of ALL systems of T'ai Chi
- K'ai
Men and Tao Yin - the Chinese Yoga
and Chi Gong sections of the Li system which enhance
energy movement, general wellbeing and flexibility
- Feng
Shou - the Li style 'Hand of the Wind'
Kung Fu system
- Chi
Shu - this throwing art of the Li system
uses wrist and joint locks, as in Chin Na, for throws
and controls
- Shuai
Chiao - this wrestling side of the
arts incorporates grappling, groundwork and close-quarter
throws using your opponent's weight and balance against
them
