Congratulations to Liam Richardson (11 Jenkin / House Captain) who has achieved a Personal Best time for the 100m sprint at the recent World Junior Championships in Switzerland and posted the fastest time for the 200m in his T35 category.
Liam said that the categorising of para-athletes is complicated and scientific but at the World Championships, several different categories of athletes were grouped together in the same events to make up a full field of competitors.聽
鈥淲ithin the full field of 16 competitors in my races I placed 9th overall in the 200m, and 11th in the 100m. So I鈥檓 pretty happy with that.
鈥淭he thing I am proudest of is achieving a Personal Best time in a field of international athletes.
鈥淢y goal was to come away feeling I鈥檇 given my best and I鈥檝e achieved that,鈥 he said.
Liam said that the trip to Switzerland, his first to Europe, was an incredible experience and quite apart from the competition, living amongst international athletes for a week was something he will never forget.
鈥淚 have made friends from all over the world and I really hope to compete again in the next World Championships.
鈥淚鈥檝e got my immediate sights set on the Nitro Athletics competition which will take place in Melbourne early next year.
鈥淭okyo 2020 is my ultimate dream but I have a lot of hard work to do before then 鈥 on and off the track,鈥 Liam said.
